***********THIS IS A REMINDER THAT THE SHOW WILL AIR THIS SUNDAY NIGHT ON SPIKETV AT 9PM*******
This is some exciting news that I want to let you in on.
As you may have heard me hint, I will be on Bar Rescue this new season, which starts this Sunday, March 9.
My episode will air Sunday April 27, 2014.
How did this come to be?
I get a call in November, and I answer "Hello, this is John" as I normally do. The response was "is this the Hookahjohn".
I get that alot and say yes, how can I help you. This lady responds that she represents the show Bar Rescue and that they were interested in me being on the show. My thoughts, and I was about to say, OK who is trying to punk me here. I am familiar with the show, and even had thoughts of how great it would be if they did an episode of a hookah bar.
After the conversation went for 20 minutes I knew this was real, and more importantly something I would love to be a part of.
They asked me to audition, over video and phone, later in the day.
I had to ask though, "How did you hear about me, and why would you choose me?" They said that they had several people in mind and in one conversation a person auditioning said boastfully "I'm so good at hookah that I could even beat out Hookahjohn" I don't know if those were the exact words but that's what they said. It's also TV so not sure if it was an accurate statement or something they wanted to pump me up with. Either way, if that was the case, I want to thank that person for shooting himself in the foot.
If you follow the show you know the premise is a failing establishment calls Jon Taffer, the host, to bail them out of their problems.
Jon Taffer does his research, plants hidden cameras, and brings in 2 experts, usually a chef and a bartender/mixologist. They go in, see what is wrong, and fix the place up.
Since this was a hookah bar that serves alcohol they brought in a mixologist, and, yours truly, Hookahjohn, as the hookah expert.
What can I say without giving too much up about the show?
Here is an ad for the new season.
They flew me out to a hookah lounge in the middle of the country. The crew and staff.....were just amazing. This is TV, this is the real deal. They treated me like a star, and I am truly grateful for that. I was wondering the whole week, how the fuck did I get here? What a pleasure it was to deal with such pros. Everyone from the directors, producers, coordinators, film crew, audio guys, the catering people, all the behind the scenes people and Jon Taffer himself were so nice to me, and true professionals at their craft.
I was in front of a camera for 6 hours throughout the week I would estimate. I will also estimate that I will get about 6 minutes combined throughout the show. I have no idea how this will come out, but if you watch the show it's always a success.
I can't wait, and I've been wanting to tell you since November, but why talk about it so long in advance. Anyhow, I want to thank you guys for making me who I am, and Bar Rescue for this opportunity.
